Single Super Phosphate (SSP) is a phosphate-based fertilizer produced by mixing
phosphate concentrate with sulphuric acid. MBAC plans to construct both a sulphuric
acid plant and an SSP granulation plant with a capacity of approximately 540,000
tonnes per annum. In addition, it plans to construct a flotation plant at the Itafós
Mine to beneficiate the phosphate ore (P2O5) content of the
phosphate rock from 5%-6% to 28%-30%, the grade necessary to produce SSP. With these
input components, MBAC will be able to produce for sale various fertilizer products
including SSP.
The mine, mill and fertilizer plants are expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2012.
